unique opportunities. the music receives treatments and contributions from us different from that of any other groups we've been in. what "works" is simply what's honest for this music. in a sense: what there's room for in its atmospheres - what it asks for... if we try and force in other "stuff" - some things we'd do with other people - it certainly feels out of place. (some people will never understand or accept this, and they "do their thing," the same thing, with everyone, regardless. shticks. impatience takes over, self-situated emulation... no longer really hearing/singing originally and ahead...) i think this is a music which wants to do away with the spotlight... and how audiences are used to spotlights! they want to know where to look... (this is a whole other thing...) some might think of things in terms of "restrictions" or "limits" (via dynamics, space, pitch), but here i'd much prefer to say "language". it's a wavelength of energy and deep esthetic expression which, indeed, over time becomes so much more vast... more and more fluent... ...makes we want to play these pieces again and again and again, to give it so much time and patience... to completely submerge in this when it's there and let it age, to no end...
